A tour of Northern Ireland’s great golf courses

Northern Ireland is one golf destination on everyone lips at the moment. Its profile has risen in tandem with the profile of Rory McIlroy, the Major Championship victories of Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke and the return of The Open to Royal Portrush in 2019. However, the quality of the golf stands on its own two feet.

To have arguably the world’s No.1 golf course in Royal County Down, Open Championship venue Royal Portrush, and Portstewart all within a 2-hour drive of each other, is a golfer’s dream. Combine that with the oldest clubhouse in the world and a fine links at Ardglass in addition to the quality of Castlerock, and you have one of the best trips that we offer right there.

This tour also includes sublime hotel accommodation, door to door transfers from start to finish and on the ground support to ensure every detail is taken care of. If you are interested in a Northern Ireland golf vacation then this could be the perfect itinerary for you.

Day 1

Slieve Donard Resort and Spa

Slieve Donard Resort and Spa (2 nights)

Located in the heart of the Mournes, the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa is situated in six acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. The stunning Irish Coastline borders one side while the world-renowned Royal County Down Golf Links frames the other. This lovingly maintained hotel is now home to one of Europe’s finest resort Spas and is equally suited to short breaks, residential conferences, weddings or even grander events.

Day 2

1 Round at Royal County Down

1 Round at Royal County Down

Royal County Down is located in one of the world’s most naturally beautiful links settings in the Murlough Nature Reserve. Against the magnificent backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne, the links stretches along the shores of Dundrum Bay, zigzagging back and forth to provide a different vista from virtually every hole.

Day 3

1 Round at Ardglass Golf Course

1 Round at Ardglass Golf Course

Ardglass Golf Course is an 18 hole links course on the North-Eastern coast of Ireland with many stunning views and excellent unique golf holes. Founded as a seven hole links in 1896, Ardglass did not expand to a full 18 holes until the 1970s. The club’s current course includes three holes designed by David Jones when additional land was acquired in 1998.

Almost half the holes at Ardglass follow the coastline, including a couple set directly against the water and several others atop dramatic cliffs that offer panoramic views across the Irish Sea toward the Isle of Man.

The Merchant Hotel

The Merchant Hotel (4 nights)

The Merchant Hotel in Belfast is situated in the heart of Belfast city centre’s historic Cathedral Quarter. The grandeur of the original Grade A listed building is complemented by an elegant Art Deco inspired wing with a multitude of exciting amenities.

With a mixture original Victorian bedrooms and Art Deco rooms added as part of a major redevelopment in 2010 the Merchant delivers opulence at every turn.

Day 4

1 Round at Royal Portrush Golf Club

1 Round at Royal Portrush Golf Club

Portrush was once a small fishing village which later became a busy seaside holiday resort before Royal Portrush Golf Club emerged as an international golf destination.

It is a club with a long and distinguished tradition with world class links which are set in spectacular rolling sand dunes with breath taking coastal views

Day 5

1 Round at Castlerock Golf Club

1 Round at Castlerock Golf Club

Castlerock Golf Club, is a classic links course set amid towering dunes. Situated on the Causeway coast and only a 20 minute drive from both Royal Portrush Golf Club and Portstewart Golf Club, Castlerock is a more than worthy neighbour to both of these great Irish links.

Where it all began in 1894!
